Senior Embedded Software Engineer

At Payter, our R&D team develops terminals and the software that powers them, including the embedded systems on the devices and the APIs that allow them to communicate with client-facing portals.You’ll work with real-time systems, hardware interfaces, and resource-constrained environments, collaborating with colleagues managing APIs and portals to ensure smooth operation, while your day-to-day work remains firmly in the embedded domain. Ensuring secure, reliable, and efficient solutions across a variety of environments, from EV chargers to vending machines.

You’ll join a small, multidisciplinary R&D team of around 8 people in a hybrid working environment at our Rotterdam office. You will take ownership of complex embedded components, contribute immediately to ongoing projects, and help shape the future of our terminal systems.

• Developing embedded software for new and existing payment terminals.

• Working with real-time systems and handling hardware integration.

Who are you?

• Experience in C, writing clean, efficient, and maintainable embedded software; experience with C++ and some exposure to Go is a plus

• Hands-on experience with Linux embedded platforms, working close to hardware to deliver reliable and performant systems

• Strong skills in requirement analysis, system design, and building complex embedded software systems

• 5+ years of experience developing embedded software for real-time systems or devices with limited memory, processing power, or energy resources

• Understanding of payment schemes and financial transaction processing is a plus but not required

• Ability to quickly adapt to existing codebases and collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth integration and operation
